Dr Matthew Ho
Dr Matthew Ho is an Australian-trained anaesthetist, practicing in Sydney’s North Shore.
He is a member of North Shore Anaesthetics – a select group of specialists servicing the major public and private hospitals of Sydney. Dr Ho is a Visiting Medical Officer at Royal North Shore Hospital and works regularly at the following university-affiliated private hospitals: The Mater Hospital, Macquarie University Hospital, the Sydney Adventist Hospital (‘The San’), and North Shore Private Hospital.

Dr Ho was awarded his medical degree with honours at the University of New South Wales, before completing anaesthesia training at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney. Dr Ho has received several prestigious awards including:
the Cecil Gray Prize for highest mark in the 2013 Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) Fellowship Examination;
the 2014 ANZCA Overseas Aid Scholarship;
the 2015 St Vincent’s Clinic Travelling Fellowship; and
nomination for the 2017 ANZCA Gilbert Brown research prize.
After completing his Australian training, Dr Ho undertook dual sub-specialty training in Regional Anaesthesia and Acute Pain medicine; and Global Health in Dalhousie University, Canada in 2015-16.
As a Visiting Lecturer for the University of Rwanda, he partnered with local staff to establish the country’s first regional anaesthesia service in 2016.

Dr Ho is a regional anaesthesia specialist. He has been an active contributor in the academic field of anaesthesia. His research has focused on intravenous lidocaine for post-operative pain relief, and knowledge translation through education in Global Health communities. Dr Ho is a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA).

Dr Ho is kept busy bringing up his 6 young children - an experience which makes the operating theatre environment seem peaceful! As a keen athlete, he has enjoyed promoting running as a wellbeing initiative amongst his colleagues. A runner since youth, he competed in Junior Cross Country Nationals and is now competing in the Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group World Championships. You may see him running to and from his operating lists!
